A traditional shape for needlework scissors, the long, fine points of these scissors make it easy to snip threads close to the fabric for a neat finish.
From handle to point the scissors measure 9cm and the blades are 2cm. Their sharp, straight and smooth blades cut precisely and you’ll find it much easier to thread your needle with cleanly cut threads.
Why are embroidery scissors so often shaped like storks? It is thought that midwives, whose tools were sometimes shaped like storks due to their association with babies, often carried needlework to while away long hours waiting for new arrivals. Over time their medical tools and sewing kits mixed and embroidery scissors picked up the stork design. Or perhaps the heron’s long beak shape just lends itself well to the design of scissors?
