    Laundering Tatted Pieces

Anyone who’s had tatted pieces in their home knows how, over time, exposure to light can turn a piece from pure white to an unfortunate yellow. Then there are also issues with dirt and staining. So how do you clean your favorite tatted pieces? See below!

    • To remove dirt and stains, float the tattings in a lukewarm Ivory soap solution for an hour. DO NOT rub or squeeze. • Rinse thoroughly by letting clean water generously run through the piece. • Prepare an all fabric whitener solution in a bowl by following the directions on the package. Note: white cotton will tolerate bleach, but it may also remove the lovely sheen of the cotton. • Float the tattings in the whitener for an hour (or until the pieces have all returned to their original color). Be sure to cover the bowl with tin foil to keep the light out. • Rinse thoroughly and place on a dry towel. Roll the towel to keep light out and place it in a well ventilated area. Once it’s dry, press and open up all picots with a large tapestry needle.
