    The DIY Christmas Tree Ornament Series: Crochet Pears

    You can’t hear it, but I’m ringing some sleigh bells as I write this (it’s important to set the right mood), because today’s post is all about DIY Christmas tree ornaments. This is our first in a series where we’ll be offering up free patterns to make your tree look festive, merry, and beautifully DIY. This pattern calls for DMC Natura Just Cotton to create features crochet pears. Soft and sweet, these DIY Christmas tree ornaments will be a crafty addition to your holiday décor.     DIY Crochet Pear-Shaped Ornament

    Skill Level: Beginner Materials 1 - 50 g ball each of DMC Natura Just Cotton:
    • color N81 (Acanthe/Acanthus),
    • color N14 (Green Valley),
    • color N31 (Malva/Mallow),
    • color N99 (Sishuan/Sichuan),
    • and color N74 (Curry)
    D-3 (3.25 mm) or 3mm crochet hook DMC tapestry needle Scissors Polyester fiberfill stuffing Split ring or locking stitch marker.   Abbreviations Rnd – Round st – stitch sc – single crochet sc2tog – single crochet two stitches together (decrease)   Notes
    • The rounds are worked in a continuous spiral. Do not join with a slip st. Do not turn at the end of each round. Use a marker on the first stitch of each round to help keep your place.

      Instructions
    • Rnd 1: Work 6 sc into a magic ring. (6 st)
    • Rnd 2: 2 sc into each sc. (12 st)
    • Rnd 3: *Sc in the first sc, 2 sc in the next sc.* Repeat from * to * to the end of the rnd. (18 st)
    • Rnd 4: *Sc in the first 2 sc, 2 sc in the next sc.* Repeat from * to * to the end of the rnd. (24 st)
    • Rnd 5: *Sc in the first 3 sc, 2 sc in the next sc.* Repeat from * to * to the end of the rnd. (30 st)
    • Rnd 6: *Sc in the first 4 sc, 2 sc in the next sc.* Repeat from * to * to the end of the rnd. (36 st)
    • Rnd 7 – 13: 36 sc.
    • Rnd 14: *Sc in the first 4 sc, sc2tog in the next 2 sc.* Repeat from * to * to the end of the rnd. (30 st)
    • Rnd 15: *Sc in the first 4 sc, sc2tog in the next 2 sc.* Repeat from * to * to the end of the rnd. (25 st)
    • Rnd 16: *Sc in the first 3 sc, sc2tog in the next 2 sc.* Repeat from * to * to the end of the rnd. (20 st)
    • Rnds 17 – 21: 20 sc.
    • Rnd 22: *Sc in the first 2 sc, sc2tog in the next 2 sc.* Repeat from * to * to the end of the rnd. (15 st)
    • Rnds 23 – 24: 15 sc.
     
    • Partially fill the ornament with polyester fiberfill before working the next rnd.
     
    • Rnd 24: *Sc, sc2tog.* Repeat from * to * to the end of the rnd. (10 st)
    • Rnd 25: 10 sc.
    • Rnd 26: *Sc2tog in the next 2 sc.*   Repeat from * to * to the end of the rnd. (5 st)
    • Secure the last stitch and cut the yarn leaving a long tail.
    • Fill the ornament with polyester fiberfill.
    • Using the tail and a tapestry needle, gather, close and secure the top of the ornament.
    • Using the tail and a crochet hook, work a chain to create a hanger for the ornament.
    • Attach and secure the end of the chain to the start to complete the loop.
