    Happy Maker's Monday. That special time of the week when we celebrate the amazing creative talents of one of our Artisan Makers. This week's featured maker: Mar Y Sol. mys3 With a passion for social work, Laurel Brandstetter founded Mar Y Sol in 2003, after traveled to Madagascar to build a community development effort focused on helping fellow artists who voices would otherwise go unheard. She met with dozens of local artisan groups who sought to create a better life for themselves and their communities through their craft but lacked the necessary means to do so. myscollage21 It was the Malagasy’s eye for colors and patterns that first caught her attention. She managed to meet with dozens of artisan groups that all had one vision in common: bringing their products to the global marketplace. Brandstetter and her team in Madagascar have collaborated with designer Elizabeth Randlett and together they’ve created exquisite products from sustainable materials. collage Relentlessly pushing to bring these artists' work to the forefront of the global market place, Mar Y Sol has built an accessories brand recognized world wide for its unique designs, exquisite craftsmanship and creative use of sustainable materials. Maintaining their commitment to that tradition each piece is made by using responsibly sourced, renewable raw materials and organically tanned leathers. Each piece sold helps struggling families striving towards economic independence, preserves traditional craftsmanship and promotes environmental conservation.
