“Not many people know this, but Johannesburg is the worlds largest urban forest. From most vantage points you can see only treetops, and at the right time of year, these trees are purple. Roads are lined with jacarandas that bloom in the most gentle tones. Then all at once, they rain lavender coloured pearls. The warm orange African sun, backlighting the now empty branches. This is my favourite time to drive, on the back of a bike, through the suburbs of Jozi.”
