Advanced Cross Stitch Kit

Strawberry Thief by William Morris, V&A Advanced Cross Stitch Kit

Recreate William Morris’ Strawberry Thief with this complete cross stitch kit which has been developed in collaboration with the V&A.

About this product

This is one of Morris’ best known designs and was inspired by the thrushes which often stole the strawberries in the kitchen garden of his countryside home, Kelmscott Manor, located in Oxfordshire. It looks fabulous when stitched in the high luster Six-Strand Embroidery Floss that is included in the kit. This design was intended to be used for curtains or draped around walls, or for loose covers on furniture. This all-in-one kit will allow you to create this stunning design, in cross stitch, and introduce some of Morris’ artistic charm into your own home.

William Morris was an artist, designer, craftsman, writer and socialist who had a huge impact on the fashions and ideologies of the 19th century. Morris was instrumental in the revival of traditional British textile arts and methods of production. His work crosses various mediums, from book designs to carpets and textiles.

The V&A, London is the largest museum of art and design, and houses over 2.3 million objects. The museum stores many of the UK’s national collections and some of the best resources for the study of architecture, furniture, fashion, textiles, photography, sculpture, painting, jewelry, glass, ceramics, book arts, Asian art and design, theater and performance.
